After switching from a bulky Fenix 5x, the Garmin Vivosmart 5 feels like a breath of fresh air. The sleek, minimalist design is comfortable enough to wear 24/7—even while sleeping. The touchscreen is responsive, and the larger display makes checking stats a breeze compared to its predecessor.
The battery life is decent but not stellar. With Pulse Ox enabled only during sleep, I get about 4-5 days per charge. That’s manageable, but if you’re coming from a Fitbit with longer endurance, it might feel lacking. Charging is quick though, so no major complaints here.
Sleep tracking is hit or miss. While it provides a sleep score and insights via the Garmin Connect app, it doesn’t track naps—a feature some competitors offer. The Body Battery energy monitor is handy for gauging daily readiness, but firmware quirks can make it inconsistent at times.
The band design is my biggest gripe. Unlike previous models, the tracker occasionally pops out unexpectedly—I nearly lost mine during yard work! Investing in a screen protector is a must since the polycarbonate scratches easily.
On the upside, the app integration is seamless. Syncing with Apple Health works flawlessly, and unlike Fitbit or MyFitnessPal, there’s no nagging for premium subscriptions. The built-in sports profiles (running, yoga, swimming) cover most needs without feeling bloated.
For under $150, this delivers accurate heart rate monitoring and solid fitness tracking without unnecessary frills. Just be prepared for a slight learning curve with settings—it took me days to fully customize alerts and widgets!
