Let me start by saying I've tried EVERY drywall taping method out there - paper tape, mesh tape, bazooka tools...you name it. Tape in Mud™ completely changed my drywall game.
The biggest win? NO MORE TAPING! Just mix these fibers into your joint compound and apply directly to joints. I saved at least 40% time on my basement renovation compared to traditional methods. The fibers create insane strength - some of my test patches feel like concrete!
Application is a breeze. I used it with both hot mud (for first coats) and all-purpose compound (for finishing). Pro tip: Add a bit more water than usual - the fibers make the mud thicker. Worked perfectly for:
- Ceiling joints (no more awkward overhead taping!)
- Repairing cracked existing joints
- Filling large gaps that would normally require multiple tape layers
After 6 months, zero cracks in any of my applications. The finish sands beautifully and takes paint like a dream. For tricky spots like inside corners or outlet patches, this stuff is magic.
Two minor drawbacks:
- Shortens working time slightly with fast-setting muds
- Takes some practice to get the fiber distribution just right
At about $25 for enough to do an entire room? Absolute no-brainer. This should be standard in every drywaller's toolkit.
