This book had me hooked from the very first page! The protagonist, Liberty, is such a relatable and strong character. Her struggles with an abusive marriage and a special needs child made me root for her throughout the story.
The murder mystery aspect was brilliantly woven into Liberty's personal journey. I found myself constantly guessing who could have killed Father Sam—was it really an asthma attack or something more sinister? The twists kept me on edge!
What I loved most was how real the characters felt. Liberty's backstory with her absent mother added depth, and her friendship with Jack, the PI, brought both tension and warmth to the plot. The setting of the church charity and the Home for fatherless boys added a unique layer to the story.
That said, I do agree with some reviewers that the ending left a few loose ends. I’m really hoping for a sequel to tie everything together! Despite this, it’s a page-turner that blends crime and emotional drama perfectly.
If you enjoy mysteries with heart and complex characters, this one’s a must-read. Just be prepared to lose sleep—I couldn’t put it down!
