I recently tried the Ultra Mobile prepaid SIM card with the $29/month plan offering unlimited talk, text, and 10GB of 5G/4G LTE data. Here’s my honest take after using it for a month.
The Good: The coverage on T-Mobile’s network is solid in the US. I had no issues with calls or texts in major cities, and the 10GB data was enough for light browsing and navigation. The unlimited international calls to 90+ destinations is a huge plus—I called family abroad without worrying about extra charges.
The Bad: Activation was a headache. The instructions were unclear, and I had to manually tweak APN settings, which took forever. Also, the packaging claims 'unlimited data,' but fine print reveals it’s actually capped at high-speed—misleading! Customer service was unhelpful; they redirected me to Amazon when I asked about this discrepancy.
Travel Experience: In Mexico, the data was spotty unless I paid extra for the Go Roam pass (not obvious upfront). Texts worked inconsistently abroad—fine for emergencies but don’t rely on it for critical communication.
Verdict: Decent for short US trips or if you need cheap international calls, but research carefully. If you’re tech-savvy and patient with setup, it’s a budget-friendly option. Otherwise, consider alternatives with clearer terms.
