After three months of daily use, the Garmin Forerunner 955 has completely changed my fitness tracking game. Coming from an Apple Watch, the sheer depth of data this watch provides is mind-blowing. From VO2 max tracking to real-time run power metrics, it feels like having a personal coach on your wrist.
The standout feature for me is the Garmin Coach. Following its integrated 10K plan, I shaved 30 seconds off my pace and hit a new PR—something I didn’t think was possible with just a few weeks of structured training. The training readiness score is another gem, subtly reminding me when to push or pull back, which has kept injuries at bay.
Battery life? Absolute sorcery. Lasting over a week on a single charge (compared to my Apple Watch’s daily top-ups) means I’m no longer chained to a charger. The touchscreen is responsive, though I mostly use the buttons—they’re tactile and intuitive once you get the hang of them.
But it’s not all sunshine. The watch is bulky, especially for smaller wrists like mine, making sleep tracking uncomfortable (and inaccurate in my case). And while it handles notifications, don’t expect smartwatch-level interactions—no quick replies or call answering here. Also, beware the occasional software glitch (hello, mysterious blue triangle), though a quick reboot usually fixes it.
For triathletes or data-hungry runners, this watch is a powerhouse. It’s pricey, but the GPS accuracy, training insights, and battery life justify every penny. Just keep your Apple Watch handy for everything else.
