Let me start by saying this shredder is a MONSTER when it works properly. The AutoMax 550C has been my office companion for about a year now, and it's handled everything from sensitive tax documents to stubborn credit cards without breaking a sweat.
The automatic feed is where this machine shines. I've dumped stacks of up to 100 sheets (yes, I counted!) and watched in awe as it devoured them like Pac-Man. No more standing there feeding sheets one by one - just load and walk away. The cross-cut particles are so small they look like confetti, which gives me peace of mind for sensitive documents.
Now for the not-so-great parts. The wheels? Absolute garbage. Mine cracked within three months of gentle use, and I'm not alone in this complaint. Fellowes really cheaped out here on an otherwise premium product. Also, while it's quieter than most shredders, don't expect whisper-quiet operation - you'll still want to avoid using it during important calls.
The bin capacity is decent but fills up faster than you'd expect with all those tiny cross-cut pieces. Pro tip: keep a spare trash bag handy because emptying can get messy. And yes, jams do happen occasionally with thicker materials despite the 'jam-proof' claims.
Would I buy it again? Absolutely - but only when on sale. At full price, I'd expect better build quality in the moving parts. For heavy-duty office use though, this remains one of the best options out there if you can overlook its few flaws.
