Let me start by saying this Mars Black pigment is INTENSE. I used it to tint epoxy resin for a geode art project, and wow – a tiny scoop turned my clear resin into something resembling black hole darkness. Unlike other blacks I've tried (looking at you, slightly brownish "ebony" pigments), this one stays true to its name.
The coverage is insane – I accidentally over-sprayed a black tumbler base coat with drips, and this pigment saved the day by creating flawless opacity. It's also surprisingly economical; my 4oz jar has lasted through multiple resin batches and still looks barely touched.
Now for the not-so-great: the texture can be inconsistent. Some batches mix smoothly, but mine had these stubborn mineral-like chunks that refused to dissolve completely. I had to pre-crush them with a palette knife (pro tip: wear a mask – this stuff puffs up like black talcum powder). Also worth noting – while it bonds perfectly in epoxy, it does transfer slightly when dry if used alone as powder coating.
Would I buy again? Absolutely for resin projects (just sift it first!), but I'd choose a different brand for dry applications where touch-resistance matters. P.S. Double-check your order – some reviewers got wrong colors shipped!
