After using the OTC 1577 drain pan for multiple oil changes, I'm convinced this is a game-changer for home mechanics - with a few quirks. The low 5-inch profile slides effortlessly under my sedan, and the massive 7.5-gallon capacity means I can do three full oil changes before emptying (though some users report capacity discrepancies).
The polyethylene construction feels bombproof when hot oil comes gushing out, and those four casters? Absolute lifesavers when you need to reposition mid-drain. I especially appreciate how the wide rectangular shape catches both drain plug runoff AND filter drips simultaneously - no more frantic pan shuffling!
However, that removable splash screen is more annoying than helpful. It constantly slides around during use and becomes another greasy item to clean. The anti-spill lip does its job but turns cleaning into an OCD nightmare with all those nooks collecting sludge.
Storage is my biggest gripe - this beast takes up half my garage wall when leaned upright. A hanging hole design would've been brilliant. Also be warned: fully draining viscous fluids is nearly impossible due to the poorly positioned drain port (I learned this the hard way with transmission fluid).
At this price point, I expected perfection. While it's miles better than cheap disposable pans, the design flaws keep it from being truly exceptional. Still recommend for serious DIYers who value spill-free changes over easy cleanup.
