Let me start by saying this: if you love mysteries with a side of sass, supernatural twists, and characters that feel like your weirdest (but most lovable) friends, this box set is a MUST.
The first book had me laughing out loud—like, embarrassing-public-transportation-level laughter. Mitzy is this perfect blend of klutzy and street-smart, with a demon cat that’s equal parts terrifying and iconic. The way she stumbles into solving her grandfather’s murder while clearing her estranged father’s name? Chef’s kiss.
Books 2 and 3 dialed back the slapstick but kept the snark. Mitzy’s growth is so satisfying—watching her bond with her dad and meddle in small-town drama (often while nearly getting killed) feels organic. The mysteries themselves are clever, with red herrings that actually fooled me (a self-proclaimed armchair detective).
Coleen Marlo’s narration? *chef’s kiss* She nails Mitzy’s sarcasm and gives each character distinct flair—especially Pye the demon cat, who now lives rent-free in my head. The paranormal elements (psychic powers! Ghost grandma!) add whimsy without overshadowing the whodunit core.
Downside? After binge-listening, I now resent real life for not having a Pin Cherry Harbor to move to. Also, fair warning: you’ll lose sleep. ‘Just one more chapter’ turns into finishing Book 3 at 3 AM.
Verdict: 5/5 stars for humor, heart, and hijinks. If Janet Evanovich and Alice Hoffman co-wrote a mystery series while drinking margaritas, this would be it.
