Let me start by saying the WYZE Cam v4 is hands down one of the best budget security cameras I've tested. The 2.5K resolution is noticeably sharper than previous models - I could clearly see license plates and facial details from across my yard.
The color night vision genuinely surprised me. Unlike typical grainy black-and-white footage, this camera maintains impressive color clarity even in near-total darkness. I tested it by monitoring my backyard at 3AM and could easily distinguish between a raccoon and my neighbor's cat!
Setup was ridiculously easy - literally under a minute. The Bluetooth pairing eliminates the QR code scanning hassle of other cameras. Just plug it in, open the app, and you're done. The magnetic mount makes positioning super flexible too.
Where this camera really shines (pun intended) is the motion-activated spotlight. When someone approached my front porch at night, the bright LED light automatically turned on while my phone alerted me instantly. The two-way audio worked flawlessly when I told a delivery person where to leave a package.
However, there are some quirks: The spotlight can't be permanently disabled if you don't want it triggering at night (annoying for indoor baby monitoring). Also, continuous recording requires either cloud subscription or microSD card - not both simultaneously.
For under $40 though? This outperforms cameras twice its price. After using it daily for 3 weeks, I'm replacing two of my older Nest cams with WYZE v4s. Just be aware of its limitations if you need professional-grade surveillance.
