Let me start by saying these XLX TURF grass tiles look absolutely fantastic. The 5-tone color variation and 1.57" pile height create a surprisingly realistic appearance - so much so that one reviewer's squirrel tried burying nuts in it! Installation is straightforward with the interlocking buckle system, though some users reported difficulty snapping tiles together perfectly.

The soft, lush texture feels great under bare feet - a major plus for balcony or patio use. I love that they're made from lead-free materials, making them safe for kids and pets. The heavy-duty plastic base provides excellent durability for high-traffic areas.

However, there are some significant drawbacks for pet owners. While the product claims to be self-draining, multiple users reported urine getting trapped in the fibers, creating awful odors. One frustrated customer described urine "pouring out" when disassembling the tiles after just a week of dog use.

The drainage holes work well for water but seem inadequate for pet waste. Some dogs avoided the tiles entirely - one pup got scared by the texture and peed halfway on it! For light human use on flat surfaces (concrete patios work best), these perform well. But if you need pet-friendly artificial grass, you might want to keep looking.

At this price point ($100+ for 9 tiles), I expected better performance from a product marketed for pet use. It's perfect for creating a green oasis on your balcony, but think twice before using it as a dog potty area unless you enjoy scrubbing pee out of plastic grass.
