Let me start by saying – wow. Emily March has done it again with this third installment of the Lake in the Clouds series. The way she weaves multiple character arcs together while keeping the emotional core intact is nothing short of magical.
I devoured this book in two sittings (and yes, that includes staying up until 3 AM). What struck me most was how REAL these characters feel. Zoey’s introduction was brilliant – she slots into the Prentice family dynamics like she’s always belonged, yet brings fresh energy to the story.
The tissue warning is real, folks. There’s a particular scene involving Helen and a long-buried family secret that had me sobbing into my tea. But what I appreciate most is how March balances these heavy moments with genuine humor – there’s a disastrous family dinner scene that had me laughing out loud on my morning commute.
While you could technically read this as a standalone, trust me – you’ll want to start from Book 1. Seeing how these characters evolve across the series makes their journeys in this finale so much more satisfying.
My only critique? I wish we’d gotten more closure for one particular Prentice sibling (no spoilers!). But that just shows how invested I became in this fictional family – I wanted EVERYONE to get their happy ending.
If you love small-town romance with depth, complex family dynamics, and writing that makes you feel ALL the emotions? This deserves a permanent spot on your shelf. Just clear your schedule first – because once you start, putting it down isn’t an option.
