Let me start by saying this Earth Resistance Tester looks and feels like a professional tool. The solid build quality gives you confidence, and the included accessories (4 ground rods, multiple test wires, probes) make it ready to use right out of the box. The carrying bag is a nice touch for organization.
The functionality is impressive on paper - it handles ground resistance testing (0.03-2000Ω), AC voltage up to 600V, DC voltage up to 1500V, and has auto-measurement features. I particularly appreciate the data hold function and backlit display when working in low-light conditions.
However, my actual experience using it has been frustrating. The manual is poorly written with cryptic abbreviations that don't match the LCD display. I spent hours trying to interpret messages like 'NG' versus 'OK' and figuring out proper test setups. Like another reviewer mentioned, I got wildly different readings (from 0.245Ω to 246Ω) testing the same ground rod!
The included test wires feel cheap compared to the meter itself - they work but don't inspire confidence for long-term use. There's also this mysterious extra battery included that isn't mentioned anywhere in documentation.
When I finally got consistent readings using the 4-point soil resistivity method (after much trial and error), results seemed plausible but I have no way to verify accuracy without a reference standard. Small changes in spike depth or moisture dramatically affected readings.
For solar applications and basic grounding tests, it gets the job done once you decipher its quirks. But professionals needing precise measurements may want something with better documentation and calibration options.
Bottom line: Powerful capabilities hampered by poor instructions - would be 5 stars with better documentation or tutorial videos!
