Just finished reading 'The Locked Door' by Frieda McFadden, and wow, it's a rollercoaster of suspense! The way McFadden weaves the past and present of Dr. Nora Davis is masterful. I usually get annoyed with time jumps, but here, they add so much depth to the mystery.
The pacing is perfect for a thriller – fast enough to keep you hooked but not so rushed that you miss the details. And those twists! I thought I had it figured out multiple times, but nope, McFadden kept proving me wrong.
What really stands out is how relatable Nora feels despite her dark past. Her struggles and fears are palpable, making her more than just a character in a book. You feel for her, even when you're questioning her actions.
That said, it's not without flaws. Some parts felt a tad predictable, and I wished for a bit more depth in certain subplots. But these are minor quibbles in what's otherwise a gripping read.
If you're into psychological thrillers that keep you on your toes without being overly graphic or convoluted, this is your book. It's the kind of story that stays with you, making you double-check your own locked doors at night!
