Let me start by saying this book had me in a CHOKEHOLD. From the moment I cracked open 'Second Chance Rival', I was completely invested in Belle and Tristian's story. The way their teenage love gets a second chance twenty years later? Chef's kiss perfection.
The chemistry between these two is OFF THE CHARTS. Tristian's dirty mouth had me fanning myself - this man knows exactly what he wants (and it's Belle). Their banter is witty, sharp, and so damn entertaining. I found myself laughing out loud one moment and clutching my pearls the next.
What really stood out to me was how well the author weaves between past and present. You get these delicious glimpses into their teenage romance that make their adult reunion even more meaningful. That scene where Tristian shows up in Belle's office after twenty years? I may have squealed.
The arranged marriage trope is executed brilliantly here - it doesn't feel forced because you can feel the history between them bubbling under every interaction. And can we talk about the steam? 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ These two set the pages on fire!
That said, I do wish Belle had put up more of a fight initially. After being abandoned for twenty years, I expected her resistance to last longer than it did. And while I loved Tristian's alpha energy, there were moments where his behavior bordered on too controlling for my taste.
The family rivalry aspect adds such delicious tension throughout the story. Those meddling grandfathers! While frustrating at times, their interference creates the perfect setup for our couple's reunion.
If you're looking for a romance that will make you laugh, swoon, and maybe need to fan yourself occasionally, this is your book. Just clear your schedule first - because once you start reading about Belle and Tristian's second chance at love, you won't be able to put it down!
