Let me start by saying these oil-absorbing pads do work as advertised when it comes to soaking up oil spills. I've used them in my garage under my motorcycle during maintenance, and they effectively caught drips without letting any seep through to the concrete floor.
The bright white color is a major plus - you can clearly see when the pad has absorbed oil, making it easy to know when replacement is needed. This visual indicator is especially helpful for monitoring slow leaks over time.
However, I have to agree with other reviewers about the thickness issue. Calling these 'heavyweight' is quite misleading. The pads are surprisingly thin - about as thick as several sheets of paper stacked together. They don't have the substantial feel I expected from the product photos.
For small, routine drips and leaks (like under a parked car or during basic maintenance), these pads perform adequately. But for larger spills or heavy industrial use, you'll likely need something more substantial. The absorption capacity is decent but not exceptional.
The water-repellent feature works well - I tested by spilling some water next to an oil spot, and the pad only absorbed the oil while leaving the water beaded on top.
While they get the job done for light use, I can't help feeling slightly disappointed given the 'heavyweight' claim and price point. They're good for what they are, but manage your expectations regarding thickness and absorption capacity.
