Let me start by saying - I was skeptical. As someone who's bounced between Cakewalk, Reaper, and other DAWs over the years, I assumed Samplitude's 'Music Studio' version would be a watered-down loop machine. Boy, was I wrong!
The installation process did feel a bit old-school (DVD in 2023? Really?), but the download option saved the day. Once installed, I was blown away by how feature-packed this affordable software is. The included VST plugins alone are worth the price - including their surprisingly good Vocal Tune 2 (yes, basically Autotune!).
Where Samplitude really shines is in music creation and MIDI work. Recording guitar parts and programming electronic drums felt incredibly intuitive. The object-based workflow reminds me of Reason, but with better MIDI implementation. For my home studio recordings, it's been a game-changer.
That said, it's not perfect. The mastering tools feel like an afterthought compared to the robust recording features. And while the interface is user-friendly for beginners, advanced users might miss some customization options found in pricier DAWs.
For hobbyists or intermediate producers working in Windows, this might be all the DAW you'll ever need. Just be prepared for some initial setup quirks - once you're past those, it's smooth sailing into professional-quality audio production.
