Let's dive straight into this automotive training manual that's getting some seriously mixed reviews. Having spent weeks with this book as part of my mechanic certification prep, I've got some strong opinions to share.
The good stuff first: when this book gets it right, it's fantastic. The theory sections on auto systems operation are clear and thorough - exactly what you need when prepping for ASE tests. I found myself constantly referring back to these well-explained concepts during my studies.
Now for the frustrating parts... The incomplete explanations drove me nuts! There were multiple instances where the text would reference diagrams or concepts that simply weren't in the book. Chapter 10 was particularly disappointing - those blank sensor waveform graphs made advanced diagnostics nearly impossible to understand properly.
The physical quality leaves something to be desired too. My copy arrived looking slightly used (creased cover, minor scuffs), and the print quality isn't great. The numerous spelling and grammar errors suggest it needed another round of proofreading before publication.
Here's my take: this could be an excellent resource with better editing and quality control. As it stands, you'll get solid foundational knowledge but will need to supplement with YouTube videos or other resources for complete understanding. Not terrible, but not quite living up to its potential either.
