Let me start by saying – if you're a fan of Regency romance with emotional depth, this book is a must-read. The way the author weaves the second-chance trope into historical setting feels fresh yet comfortingly familiar.
The characters? Absolutely delightful. The Duke isn't your typical brooding aristocrat – he's layered, flawed, and his growth throughout the story feels earned. The female lead matches him perfectly with her quiet strength.
What surprised me most was how invested I became in their relationship. There's one particular scene by the garden fountain where their unspoken feelings nearly had me tearing up – and I don't cry easily at romance novels!
The pacing deserves special mention. Some historical romances drag in the middle, but this kept me turning pages late into the night. The balance between romantic tension and plot development is just right.
My only minor critique? I wish we'd gotten more scenes with the supporting characters, especially the witty best friend who stole every scene she was in.
Perfect for when you want that satisfying emotional payoff without unnecessary drama. I've already downloaded Book 2 in the series!
