First off, let me just say – this game is an absolute blast! Happy Little Dinosaurs is the perfect mix of cute artwork and savage gameplay. The concept of dodging disasters (both emotional AND literal) while sabotaging friends never gets old.
The components feel high-quality – those dino meeples are adorable, and the cards have a nice matte finish that survives my clumsy hands. Setup takes 2 minutes, and the rulebook explains everything clearly (though you’ll fully ‘get’ the strategy after 1-2 rounds).
What surprised me most was the depth. At first glance it seems simple: play point cards to avoid disasters. But deciding when to take a disaster intentionally (some actually help you!) or when to screw over opponents adds delicious tension. My personal favorite moment? Watching my partner’s face when I made their dino get ghosted by its date.
Two minor gripes: The box could be smaller for travel (though it does fit all expansions), and some disaster cards feel slightly repetitive after 10+ plays. But with multiple expansions available, this is easily fixed.
Perfect for: Game nights (works great at 2 players!), family time (my 9-year-old niece adores it), or anyone who enjoys light strategy with maximum laughter. Just be warned – friendships may be temporarily damaged when someone sends a meteor your way!
