I've been using this Smart WiFi Thermostat Plug for about a month now, and I have some thoughts. First off, the idea is fantastic - being able to control my space heater remotely via an app or voice commands is exactly what I needed for my drafty home office.
The setup process was... an adventure. Like other reviewers mentioned, the manual might as well have been written in hieroglyphics. I spent a good hour trying to get it connected to my WiFi, and just when I was about to give up, it magically appeared in my app. The thermostat does require that dangling temperature probe (which looks ridiculous wrapped around the unit), but it's necessary for accurate readings.
When it works, it's great. I love being able to turn on my heater before I get home from work or adjust the temperature without getting out from under my blankets. The scheduling feature is handy too - I have it set to warm up my office before my morning meetings.
However, there are some serious quirks. Sometimes it does this rapid on-off cycling that makes me nervous about my heater's longevity (and honestly makes me question safety). The temperature readings can be inconsistent too - mine shows about 3°F lower than my other thermometers in the room.
The worst part is the random disconnections from WiFi. It still functions as a basic thermostat when offline (thank goodness), but defeats half the purpose of a 'smart' plug. The loud clicking noise every time it switches is another downside - definitely not bedroom-friendly.
For the price, I expected better reliability and polish. It gets the job done (mostly), but requires way more troubleshooting than any smart device should in 2023. If you're tech-savvy and patient, it might work for you - but casual users should probably look elsewhere.
