Just finished 'The Asset' and wow, what a ride! This book had me hooked from the first page with its intense action and deep character development.
Lance Spector is such a compelling protagonist - flawed yet incredibly skilled. The way Herzog writes him makes you root for him even when he's in the most impossible situations.
The pacing is perfect - never a dull moment, but also gives you time to breathe between action sequences. Some thriller writers go overboard with non-stop action, but Herzog finds that sweet spot.
What really impressed me was how cinematic it felt. I could practically see the fight scenes playing out in my head like a big-budget movie. That interrogation scene? Absolutely brutal (in the best way possible).
The only minor critique I have is that some of the secondary characters could've used more development, but honestly, I was too engrossed in the main plot to care much.
Finished it in two days flat and immediately bought the next book in the series. If you're into spy thrillers with heart-pounding action and smart plotting, this is a must-read!
