Let me start by saying I really wanted to like these retractable fuel funnels. The concept is great - a flexible, space-saving tool for transferring fluids without spills. But after using them for oil changes and transmission fluid top-ups, I can't recommend them.
The biggest issue? That gap where the bottle hooks on is a disaster waiting to happen. I learned this the hard way when motor oil gushed out twice as fast as it could drain, creating a messy puddle in my garage. You have to pour painfully slow to avoid spills, which defeats the purpose.
The accordion-style flexible tube is another headache. Unlike regular funnels, you can't properly clean it - leftover fluids drip everywhere when storing. I had to keep mine in a sealed bag to avoid contaminating my trunk.
On the positive side, they do take up minimal space (about the size of two soda cans). The wide opening works okay if you ignore the bottle-hook feature entirely and just use it as a basic funnel. But at that point, why not just buy a $2 traditional funnel?
The plastic feels alarmingly cheap - like something from a dollar store toy aisle. For occasional emergency use they might suffice (I'm keeping mine as backup), but for regular automotive maintenance? Save your money and get a sturdier funnel without these design flaws.
