Okay, so I finally got my hands on Zachary Petit's freelance writing guide, and here's the tea ☕
First off, this isn't your typical dry writing manual. The dude actually makes learning about query letters and contracts kinda... fun? Who knew that was possible?
The organization is chef's kiss 👌 - starts with basics but doesn't talk down to you. As someone who's dabbled in freelancing before, I still picked up tons of new tricks (my notebook is now full of scribbles).
Special shoutout to the interview chapter - packed with practical tips I wish I knew years ago. Like how to not sound like a nervous wreck when talking to sources (been there).
Only gripe? Wish there were more visuals/diagrams. My ADHD brain sometimes glazed over the wall-of-text moments. But hey, sticky notes to the rescue!
If you're serious about magazine/newspaper freelancing, this is 100% worth the cash. Just maybe don't read it in one sitting like I did - my coffee consumption was... concerning.
