Just finished reading this incredible book and wow, it hits hard. Leckie doesn't just tell you about war - he makes you feel it. The way he describes Okinawa is so vivid I could almost smell the gunpowder.
What really stood out to me was how he covers ALL aspects of the battle - not just the ground combat but also the naval and air operations. Most WWII books focus on one perspective, but this gives you the complete picture.
I thought I knew about Okinawa after reading 'With the Old Breed', but Leckie showed me how much I didn't know. His analysis of Japanese strategy was particularly eye-opening.
The book arrived in perfect condition (bonus!) and while some parts are dense with detail, every page feels important. You can tell this was written by someone who lived through hell and came back to tell the story with clarity and respect.
If you're into WWII history, do yourself a favor and grab this one. It's not always an easy read emotionally, but it's 100% worth it.
