I recently got the Amped AWPW208 Outdoor Smart Plug to automate my deck lights and fountain. Setup was straightforward, though I had to hunt for the 'Superconn' app—turns out it's discontinued, which isn’t mentioned anywhere. I ended up using a generic smart plug app that somehow worked.
The plug itself feels sturdy, and the IPX2 rating gives peace of mind during light rain. But here’s the kicker: despite the product description claiming you can control each outlet independently, both sockets are permanently synced. My plan was to run lights on one and the fountain on a separate schedule—nope. They’re either both on or both off. That’s a major letdown.
On the upside, voice control via Alexa works flawlessly ('Alexa, turn on patio magic'). The surge protection is a nice touch for outdoor electronics, and it handled my 10W LED string lights + 50W fountain pump without overheating. Just don’t expect granular control.
Would I recommend it? Only if you need simple on/off for paired devices outdoors and find it on sale. For actual dual-zone control, look elsewhere—this isn’t it.
