Just finished Anne Tyler's 'Three Days in June' and wow - this book packs SO much emotion into just 72 hours! The story follows Gail, a recently unemployed mom navigating her daughter's wedding while her ex-husband Max unexpectedly crashes at her place... with a cat in tow.
The brilliance lies in how Tyler makes ordinary moments extraordinary. That awkward spa day snub? The way Max keeps 'accidentally' extending his stay? All these little details build into something profoundly human. I found myself laughing at Gail's dry humor one minute, then tearing up at family revelations the next.
What surprised me most was how much character development Tyler fits into this compact story. Through flashbacks and present-day interactions, we see decades of marriage, divorce, and personal growth unfold naturally. The cat subplot (yes really!) ends up being this beautiful metaphor for second chances.
My only complaint? At 192 pages, it ended too soon! I wanted to spend more time with these beautifully flawed characters. Perfect for readers who enjoy slice-of-life stories with depth - just don't be surprised if you finish it in one sitting like I did.
Final verdict: 4.5/5 stars (knocking off half a star because now I'm emotionally attached to fictional people)
