Just got this Spalding Rookie Gear basketball for my 8-year-old, and here's the real tea ☕
First off, the size is PERFECT for young players. The 27.5" circumference (Size 5) makes it so much easier for small hands to grip properly. My kid actually wants to practice now instead of struggling with an adult-sized ball!
The composite cover feels great - not too sticky but has enough texture for solid control. It's noticeably lighter than standard balls, which I think helps prevent bad shooting form from developing.
BUT... mine arrived completely flat despite the 'shipped inflated' promise 😤 Had to dig out our old pump (no included needles as some reviewers mentioned). After inflation, it holds air okay for indoor use but seems to lose pressure faster when used outdoors.
Quality seems decent for the price point - we've been using it daily for 3 weeks with no visible wear yet. Though I'm side-eyeing those reviews mentioning lopsided balls...
Verdict? Solid choice for youth development if you get a good one, but quality control might be hit-or-miss. Would recommend buying directly from reputable sellers with good return policies!
