Just unboxed this gorgeous Superman steelbook set and WOW – the packaging alone is worth the price! The outer case has this beautiful metallic sheen that makes it look like a collector’s item (which it totally is). Each steelbook inside features original poster art, and they’re snugly fitted like Kryptonian armor.
The 4K transfers? *chef’s kiss* Superman I and II look especially crisp, though I noticed the Donner Cut of II has slightly grainier footage (probably from unfinished scenes). Still, watching Reeve’s iconic smile in HDR gave me chills. That John Williams score booming through Atmos? Perfection.
Now let’s be real – III and IV are… well, they exist. But even these flawed sequels benefit from the upgrade. The junkyard fight in III somehow looks worse in 4K (why did Pryor’s slapstick age like milk?), but hey, the included cartoons and mini-comic more than makeup for it.
One gripe: No Returns or extended cuts of the first film? Come on Warner Bros! Still, seeing Zod’s phantom zone prison in that lenticular card almost made me forgive them. Almost.
Final verdict? If you grew up believing a man could fly, this set will make your inner child soar. Just maybe skip III during your marathon – your eyeballs will thank you.
