I've been using the HP Premium Stream laptop for a few weeks now, and it's been... interesting. The first thing that struck me was how lightweight it is - at just over 3 pounds, it's perfect for tossing in my bag when I'm heading to coffee shops or coworking spaces.
The display is surprisingly good for the price point. The virtually bezel-less HD screen makes browsing and document work pleasant, with colors that pop more than I expected from an entry-level laptop. Watching YouTube videos during lunch breaks has been enjoyable.
Performance is where things get tricky. For basic tasks like web browsing, email, and document editing through Office 365 (which comes with a 1-year subscription), it handles fine. But like one reviewer mentioned, storage is painfully limited. I had to immediately invest in cloud storage because the 64GB eMMC fills up frighteningly fast.
The Intel Celeron processor shows its limitations when you try to push beyond basic tasks. I attempted some light photo editing as a test, and while it worked, the fan noise became noticeable and everything slowed down considerably.
Battery life has been decent - I consistently get about 6-7 hours of mixed use (browsing, documents, some video). The blue color gives it a nice professional yet distinctive look that stands out from typical silver or black laptops.
Would I recommend this? If you need an ultra-portable device strictly for web browsing, documents, and media consumption - and are comfortable managing limited storage - it's not bad. But if you need to do anything more demanding or want to store files locally without constant management headaches, you might want to look elsewhere.
