Okay, so I finally got my hands on 'Gardening with Chickens' after seeing all the hype online. As someone who struggles to keep both plants AND chickens alive, this book felt like a lifesaver!
The first thing that struck me was how practical it is. Lisa doesn't just tell you what to plant - she explains WHY certain plants benefit chickens (hello, natural dewormers!) and how to actually make it work in real life. My favorite part? The chicken salad bar idea - genius!
What surprised me was the honest advice about keeping chickens OUT of the garden most of the year. I thought this would be all about free-ranging, but turns out there's smart ways to use chickens in garden cleanup during off-seasons.
The photos are gorgeous (major coffee table book vibes) but it's not just pretty pictures. I've already dog-eared like 20 pages with tips I want to try, especially the herb section for natural chicken health.
Whether you're a gardening newbie or seasoned chicken keeper, this book has something for you. My only complaint? Now I want to expand my flock AND my garden...my wallet's not ready!
