After testing KOIKA BAC+ probiotics in my 50-gallon community tank for a month, I'm convinced this is one of the most effective - if stinkiest - aquarium supplements I've tried. The milky, buttered-popcorn scent (when you get a good batch) is strangely comforting during water changes.
PROS:
- My neon tetras developed noticeably brighter colors within 2 weeks
- Solved persistent cloudy water issues I'd battled for months
- Betta fish that previously ignored pellets now swarm feeding time
- One bottle treats my large tank economically (½ cap per week)
CONS:
- Received one rancid-smelling bottle (like others reported)
- No sprayer included despite product images showing one
- French-only instructions were confusing initially
REAL-WORLD RESULTS:
When my new angelfish showed signs of swim bladder disorder, I mixed BAC+ with frozen brine shrimp. Within 48 hours, the fish was swimming normally again. My cherry shrimp colony also became more active, with females carrying eggs more frequently.
TIP: Mix with food instead of adding directly to water - it's more effective and controls the smell. For sensitive species like crystal shrimp, start with half dosage.
While not perfect (that smell issue needs addressing), KOIKA BAC+ outperformed every probiotic I've tried in 10 years of fishkeeping. Just maybe open your windows during use!
