Just got my hands on Volume II of Columella's On Agriculture (Loeb Classical Library edition) and I'm absolutely thrilled!
As someone who actually lives out in the country, these ancient farming texts hit different. The knowledge here isn't just historical curiosity - it's packed with surprisingly practical advice that still holds up today.
What I love most is Columella's writing style. The man gets straight to the point while somehow keeping it engaging. No fluff, just pure agricultural wisdom from Roman times that could probably teach modern farmers a thing or two.
The Loeb edition is perfect too - having the Latin text facing the English translation means I can geek out on the original wording when something particularly interesting comes up.
If you're into ancient texts or serious about sustainable farming practices, this is worth every penny. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go try some of these Roman-era vineyard techniques...
