Let me start by saying - WOW. 'Love, Mom' by Iliana Xander is that rare thriller that actually delivers on all its promises. I devoured this book in two sleepless nights because I literally couldn't put it down.
The story follows Mackenzie, who discovers the woman she called 'Mom' her whole life isn't her biological mother. What follows is a wild ride of secrets, lies and shocking revelations. Xander's writing is so sharp - every chapter ends with a mini-cliffhanger that makes you say 'just one more chapter' at 2AM.
What impressed me most were the characters. Mackenzie feels so real - her confusion, anger and determination leap off the page. And EJ? What a fantastic supporting character! Their friendship provides much-needed warmth in this dark story.
The twists! Oh my god, the twists! Just when you think you've figured it out, Xander pulls the rug from under you again. The final reveal literally made me gasp out loud on my morning commute (earning some strange looks from fellow passengers).
If I had to nitpick, the ending felt slightly rushed after such perfect pacing throughout. But that's like complaining your rollercoaster ride ended too soon after all those amazing loops.
For fans of Freida McFadden or anyone who loves psychological thrillers with heart, this is an absolute must-read. Clear your schedule before starting - you won't want to stop until that mind-blowing finale!
