Okay, so I just got this Tokyo Geek's Guide book and WOW. As someone who's always been low-key obsessed with anime but never fully understood the culture, this is like finding a treasure map to Nerdvana.
The photos are insane - we're talking neon-lit Akihabara streets that make me want to book a flight RIGHT NOW. The writer Gianni explains everything in this chill, 'hey let me show you around' way that doesn't make you feel dumb for not knowing what a 'brain cake' is (apparently it's a thing at Capcom Bar?? Wild).
What I love most is how practical it is. It's not just pretty pictures - there are actual addresses, maps and insider tips. My favorite section is about these underground Ikebukuro cafes where they serve food in... questionable ways (chocolate-coated biscuit sticks as utensils? Only in Japan).
Bought it for my upcoming trip but honestly I've been reading it like a novel. Even if you're not going to Tokyo soon, it's just fun to flip through and dream. Though fair warning - after seeing the Akihabara nightlife pages, your wallet might start crying in anticipation.
PS: The English is super accessible (I'm not fluent at all) and the binding feels nice and sturdy for tossing in a travel bag. Otaku approved!
