After using the VTech VM901 baby monitor for several months, I have mixed feelings about this product. Let me break down my experience with its features and performance.
The 5-inch 720p display provides a clear view of my baby's room, and the 1080p camera delivers sharp images during daytime. The night vision is impressive - I can clearly see my baby even in complete darkness. The pan-tilt-zoom function works smoothly from both the parent unit and smartphone app, allowing me to check every corner of the nursery without entering the room.
What I love most is the two-way talk feature. When my baby starts fussing at night, just hearing my voice through the monitor often calms her down immediately. The temperature alerts have also been helpful during seasonal changes when we need to adjust room temperature.
However, there are significant drawbacks. The battery life is terrible - it barely lasts two hours unplugged, which defeats the purpose of a portable monitor. Connectivity issues are frequent; sometimes the parent unit won't connect to the camera unless I reset both devices. This can be stressful when you desperately need to check on your crying baby.
The mobile app works well when it connects, but setup can be tricky. I appreciate that there are no subscription fees for remote viewing - this was a major selling point for me compared to other smart monitors.
For parents considering this monitor: it offers great features when it works properly, but be prepared for some frustrations with battery life and connectivity. Keep it plugged in most of the time and have patience with occasional technical glitches.
