Let me start by saying I had HIGH hopes for this manual bread slicer. As someone who recently caught the sourdough baking bug, I envisioned effortlessly creating bakery-perfect slices every morning. The German design looked sturdy, and the adjustable thickness knob seemed genius.
First use was... disappointing. That beautiful crusty loaf I spent 24 hours nurturing? The slicer just skated across my countertop like it was on ice. Those suction cups? Completely useless on my smooth granite. I had to resort to awkwardly bracing it with one hand while slicing with the other - not exactly the elegant experience advertised.
The blade itself cuts beautifully when you can keep the thing stable. It glides through crusty sourdough like butter, leaving those Instagram-worthy uniform slices. I've found that placing a damp towel underneath helps somewhat with stability.
At $40, I expected better finishing too. The rough-cut metal edges look like they forgot the final polishing step - not what you want near food preparation areas.
Would I recommend it? Maybe... if you're willing to MacGyver some solutions (I'm considering permanent rubber feet). It's so close to being great, but needs some serious design tweaks to justify the price tag.
