Okay, so I just finished 'Three Days in June' and wow – Anne Tyler really knows how to twist your heartstrings while making you chuckle at the absurdity of family dynamics.
First off, Gail is THAT relatable mom – socially awkward, slightly passive-aggressive, and suddenly unemployed right before her daughter's wedding. Classic life timing. Then her ex-husband Max shows up with a CAT (???) because apparently that’s just how divorced dads roll. The chaos is delicious.
The real kicker? The wedding might not even happen because of a last-minute bombshell about the groom. Drama! But what got me was how Tyler weaves this quiet magic where you start rooting for Gail and Max to maybe, possibly rekindle something… until that KNOCK ON THE DOOR at the end. No spoilers but AHHH!
It’s short (more novella than novel), but packed with those signature Tyler moments: weirdly specific Baltimore details, people being politely messy, and sudden emotional gut-punches disguised as small talk. 4/5 stars – docked one because I wanted 100 more pages of this dysfunctional joy.
