Just finished 'The Things We Cannot Say' and wow... I'm still wiping tears. This book wrecked me in the best possible way. Kelly Rimmer somehow made me laugh, sob, and hug my Kindle all in one sitting.
The dual timeline between WWII Poland and modern-day Florida is GENIUS. At first I was like 'wait who's who?' but after 3 chapters it clicked so perfectly. Alina's wartime struggles hit differently when contrasted with Alice's modern parenting challenges.
Special shoutout to the autism representation - as someone with a neurodivergent family member, Alice's journey felt so real and respectful. That scene where she finally understands her son? Waterworks.
Pro tip: Do NOT read the last 50 pages in public unless you're cool with strangers seeing you ugly-cry over fictional characters. That ending... I need to lie down.
10/10 would emotionally devastate myself again. Already planning to force all my book club friends to read this so we can cry together.
