Okay, so I finally got my hands on this British baking book and here's the tea ☕️
First impression? Cute but tiny! Like seriously, I expected more recipes for the price. But hey, it does have classics like scones and crumpets which is what I wanted.
The bread machine recipes threw me off though - who owns those anymore? Had to skip like 3 recipes immediately 😒 The English shortbread was... underwhelming? Tasted like fancy flour cookies. My husband side-eyed me hard when I served them.
BUT! The crumpets recipe SLAPS. Made them in my bread machine (dusting it off after 5 years lol) and they came out perfect - way better than store-bought rubber discs. Also loving the Victoria sponge cake recipe - proper British goodness!
Wish there were more photos though. And why mix American measurements in a BRITISH cookbook?! Converting cups to grams is my personal hell.
Verdict: 3.5/5 ⭐️ Good for basics but probably not worth it if you already have British recipe sources. The free Cornish pasty ebook was a nice bonus though!
