Okay, so I've been testing these Tapo C420S2 cameras for about 3 weeks now and here's my real talk review:
First off - setup was STUPID easy. Like 'connect hub to router, sync cameras, mount them' easy. The app walks you through everything and I had mine running in under 15 minutes (including charging time).
The video quality? Chef's kiss 👌. Daytime footage is crisp 2K, and night vision legit made me do a double take - it's so bright I thought my feed was frozen at first. The color night vision with spotlights is cool but honestly the IR mode works better for stealth monitoring.
Battery life has been solid - mine are at 85% after 3 weeks with moderate activity. Pro tip: CHARGE THEM FULLY FIRST! Learned that the hard way when mine died after a few days starting at 50%.
Few quirks though: The hub MUST be wired (no WiFi option yet) which limits placement options. Also no continuous recording (motion-activated only) which makes sense for battery life but might bother some users.
AI detection works surprisingly well - got alerts for people/pets but didn't freak out over every squirrel like my old cam did. Two-way audio is clear enough to yell at delivery guys who leave packages in the rain 😅
Would I recommend? Absolutely if you want quality wireless cams without monthly fees. Just plan your hub placement carefully and maybe grab those solar panels they sell separately.
