As a small business owner, I was initially thrilled to find Sage 50 Premium Accounting 2024 at a $400 discount. The software promises comprehensive accounting features, and for the most part, it delivers. Setting up was straightforward with various business model templates to choose from, making it easy to get started with the right chart of accounts.
Where Sage really shines is in its core functionality. Paying bills and invoicing customers is seamless, and I particularly appreciate the job costing feature that breaks down profitability by phase and cost type. Tracking inventory has also been a breeze, ensuring I never run out of critical supplies.
However, there are significant caveats. The biggest shock came when I discovered this Amazon version doesn't support cloud sharing - a feature only available through Sage's direct sales at nearly double the price. Support was another pain point; when I needed help with installation, Sage's assistance was less than stellar.
The software works well when it's running, but there's always this nagging worry about what happens if something goes wrong. The redefinition of 'perpetual license' to mean 'at Sage's discretion' is particularly concerning for long-term planning.
While Sage 50 gets the accounting job done efficiently, these limitations make me wonder if alternatives like QuickBooks might offer better value despite my initial satisfaction with this product's core features.
