Just finished reading 'The Bedroom: An Intimate History' and wow... what a strange reading experience.
First off, don't expect any deep analysis here. The book is basically just a compilation of random quotes about bedrooms and sleep throughout history. Like someone copied-and-pasted from Bartlett's Familiar Quotations but only kept the sleep-related ones.
There's no real thesis or argument - just page after page of disconnected musings about beds. After a while it starts to feel like reading someone's Pinterest board about historical sleep habits.
And then there are the factual errors! The section on Frida Kahlo made me cringe. The author gets basic facts wrong (she didn't lose her leg as a child) and uses some really problematic language ('disabled recluse' for the famously social Kahlo?).
Honestly, I'd skip this one unless you're really into reading historical bedtime quotes with no context or analysis. 2/5 stars at best.
