I recently got the GCGOODS AC Window Bracket to support my 10,000 BTU window unit, and here's the real deal after wrestling with it for an afternoon.
The Good: This thing is sturdy. Once installed, it holds my chunky AC like a champ—zero sagging or creaking. The powder-coated steel feels durable against rain, and the built-in bubble level (when intact) is genius for avoiding a lopsided unit. For $25, it’s cheaper than hiring someone to reinforce my windowsill.
The Annoying: Assembly instructions might as well be hieroglyphics. I ended up YouTubing it. Also, measure your window sill twice. Mine barely fit the 4-13" range, and drilling was mandatory (contrary to some reviews). If you’re renting or have aluminum sills? Skip this—it’s not worth the landlord wrath.
Pro Tip: Use a stud finder before drilling. I accidentally hit a metal plate in my sill and dulled two bits. The included hardware is decent, but I upgraded to heavier-duty screws for peace of mind.
Verdict: Works great if your window complies, but brace for a DIY headache. 3.5/5 stars—loses points for the vague manual and finicky fit.
