Just got my hands on the Gibraltar GP08 PowerRack Pad Outfit, and I'm loving it! Here's my take:
First off, the build quality is solid. The rack feels weighty and stable, perfect for home practice sessions. It's not something you'd want to lug around for quick warm-ups (unless you've got roadies), but it's ideal for keeping your chops sharp when you can't hit the studio.
The pads are surprisingly quiet when separate, but once assembled, they do make some noise. Apartment dwellers beware - your neighbors might still hear you. But if you're in a garage or basement? Perfect for late-night jamming without complaints about drum sounds.
One quirk: the shiny coating on the pads scuffs easily from drumsticks. After a session, you'll notice wax buildup on your sticks - might want to use a dedicated pair for practice to avoid gunking up your cymbals.
The setup flexibility is where this kit shines (literally). Being all Gibraltar components means unlimited customization options with their other gear. Want to add more pads or adjust the setup? Easy peasy.
My only gripes? The whole kit sits a bit low even at maximum height adjustment, and the bass drum pad might feel too loose for players who prefer tight heads. But these are minor compared to how well this set performs overall.
After trying Remo and DW practice kits over the years, I can confidently say this Gibraltar set outperforms them all in durability and versatility. It's built to last through years of serious practice sessions - just don't go expecting Made-in-USA quality at this price point.
