Let me start by saying this book is absolutely stunning visually. The Monterey Bay Aquarium has outdone themselves with the photography - each page is a vibrant, colorful showcase of different jellyfish species. I found myself just flipping through it to admire the images like a coffee table book.
However, the 'guide' part is seriously lacking. At just 14-16 pages (yes, I counted), there's barely any substantive information beyond Latin names and brief descriptions. I was hoping for at least some behavioral insights or habitat details, but it's really just pretty pictures with captions.
The production quality is nice - glossy pages that make the jellyfish photos pop. But I have to agree with other reviewers about the price feeling steep for what you get. It's more of a pamphlet than a book.
Where this shines is as a gift for kids or casual jellyfish enthusiasts. My niece (age 7) adored it and has been carrying it around showing everyone the 'glowy sea blobs'. For serious marine biology fans though, you'll want something more substantial.
One warning - check your copy upon arrival. Mine had a slightly bent corner, and another reviewer mentioned water stains. For the price, I expected better quality control.
