Just finished reading this permaculture classic and WOW – it's like uncovering ancient soil secrets! The way Chinese/Korean/Japanese farmers sustained fertility for 40 centuries without chemicals blows my modern mind.
The nightsoil fertilization parts made me giggle (and gag a bit), but you can't argue with results. My compost pile suddenly feels inadequate though...
Warning: The reprinted photos are potato-quality (pun intended). But the dense text more than makes up for it – packed with techniques I'm already adapting for my backyard garden.
Kinda heartbreaking to read knowing how industrial pollution ruined these systems. Makes me extra determined to keep my little patch of earth chemical-free!
