Okay, let's get the ugly out first - my copy arrived with pages OUT OF ORDER. Like, seriously? Had to play book-jigsaw before even reading. Contacted publisher who sent a replacement (props to them), but come on Amazon, get your quality control together!
Now the love part - as an instructional designer drowning in PowerPoint requests, this book is MY BIBLE. The guidelines are so practical I've started judging every slide deck I see (sorry coworkers). That "less decoration, more meaning" chapter? Life-changing.
Weirdly obsessed with Chapter 4 about cognitive load - turns out half my "helpful" visuals were actually overloading learners' brains. Whoops! The science-backed approach makes me feel like a design ninja now.
PSA: Skip the expensive 2nd edition unless you're collecting Ruth Clark's work. My friend's 1st edition has identical content minus the typos (yes, this version has embarrassing errors). Still worth every penny though - just buy used!
