Okay, so I just finished Mad Honey and wow... just wow. This book hit me like a surprise bee sting (and yes, I now know way too much about bees thanks to this novel).
At first I was skeptical about the dual authorship thing, but the way Picoult and Boylan weave their voices together is actually magical. Like honey fresh from the hive - sweet with just enough sting.
The transgender representation? Chef's kiss. As someone who knew approximately zero about this experience before reading, I feel like I've been given this incredible window into a world I never understood. And the beekeeping stuff? Weirdly fascinating even though I've never cared about insects before.
That ending though... Jodi Picoult doing what she does best - ripping my heart out while making me think deeply about life. Why do I keep falling for this emotional rollercoaster?
Seriously though, if you're looking for a book that's equal parts murder mystery, love story, and social commentary - with some bonus apiary facts - this is your jam. Just maybe don't read it in public unless you're cool with crying in front of strangers.
