I recently got my hands on the JIM HALO Retro Square Aviator Sunglasses, and they’ve been a mixed bag of surprises. At first glance, they look way more expensive than they actually are—definitely a win for style points. The metal frames give off that classic aviator vibe, and the square shape adds a modern twist. I wore them on a weekend trip, and they paired well with everything from casual tees to dressier outfits.
Comfort-wise, the adjustable silicone nose pads are a game-changer. They mold to your nose shape, so no awkward slipping or pressure points. I wore them for hours without any discomfort, which is rare for me with sunglasses. The glass lenses feel premium—thick and heavy, just like my old Ray-Bans. The clarity is impressive, and they don’t distort colors like some cheaper lenses do.
But here’s the catch: the UV protection claims didn’t fully hold up for me. On bright days, I still found myself squinting more than I expected, especially when facing direct sunlight. The lenses also have a reflective inner surface that can be distracting—imagine seeing half your face reflected back at you when the sun hits from the side. Not ideal when you’re trying to navigate busy streets.
Durability is another concern. I accidentally dropped them once (from waist height onto tile), and the lenses picked up tiny scratches. For "scratch-resistant" glass, that was disappointing. The hinges also loosened over time, making them less secure when perched on my collar.
Despite these flaws, they’re a solid choice for the price. If you’re after stylish shades that won’t break the bank—and don’t mind babying them a bit—these are worth considering. Just don’t expect miracles in sun protection or ruggedness.
